Historic Star Barn
Built in 1877 and designed by John Motter, this historic barn signified the endurance of our nation following the Civil War. In recent years, it was relocated 20 miles from its original location. Through thoughtful planning, the transportation was completed with minimal damage to the structure. This beloved community landmark was historically preserved in its new location, with attention to every detail. This included replicating an underground tunnel underneath the barn.
Because the Star Barn sits on the state historic register, B&D undertook the project with its usual care and skill, culminating in an emotional moment when the owner was able to walk into the barn in its new location for the first time.
The timber frame and siding that defined the barn in its prior location were painstakingly dismantled and preserved.
The 54-feet-high, 26,000-pound center cupola, modeled on the barn’s original, maintains the aesthetic of the original structure along with the grand staircase with massive white oak treads.
